Pre & Post Treatment Care
The care you take before and after your treatment is vital to your laser hair removal experience/process. It is very important to keep your skin healthy and safe during your treatments to ensure no adverse reactions occur.
Pretreatment Care
• Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the treatment area out of the sun for at least 2 weeks prior to your session. Sun-tanned or sunburned skin can negatively affect the results and increase the risk of complications.
• Skip Other Hair Removal Methods: Refrain from waxing, plucking, or electrolysis for 4-6 weeks before treatment. These methods remove the hair root, which is necessary for the laser to target effectively.
• Shave the Area: Shave the treatment area 24-48 hours before your appointment. This helps the laser to target the hair follicles directly without burning the hair on the skin’s surface.
• Clean Skin: Ensure the area to be treated is clean and free of cosmetics, creams, and lotions. The laser works best on clean, dry skin.
• No Deodorant or Perfume: If you’re getting laser hair removal in the underarm area, avoid using deodorants or perfumes on the day of your treatment.
• Wear Comfortable Clothing: Choose loose-fitting clothes to wear on the day of your treatment to avoid irritation on the treated area post-procedure.
• Inform Your Technician of Medications: Let your laser technician know about any medications you’re taking, as some can affect your treatment or increase sensitivity to the laser.
• Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment. Hydrated skin can handle the treatment better and may recover more quickly.
Post Treatment Care
• Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the treated area protected from the sun for at least 2 weeks post-treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to prevent skin damage and discoloration.
• Expect Mild Redness and Swelling: Don’t worry if you experience some redness and swelling, similar to a sunburn, after the procedure. These are common reactions and usually subside within a few hours to a few days.
• Use Ice Packs for Comfort: Apply ice packs or a cool compress to alleviate any discomfort and reduce swelling in the treated area.
• Gentle Skin Care: Treat your skin gently for the first 24 hours. Avoid hot baths, saunas, and strenuous exercise as they can increase skin irritation.
• Avoid Other Hair Removal Methods: Refrain from waxing, plucking, or electrolysis post-treatment. Shaving is allowed if needed, but wait a few days to allow the skin to recover.
• Moisturize Your Skin: Keep your skin hydrated with fragrance-free lotions or aloe vera gel to soothe the treated area.
• Watch for Ingrown Hairs: As the hair sheds, you may notice ingrown hairs. Avoid picking at them and continue to moisturize the area.
• Follow-Up Treatments: Stick to your schedule for follow-up treatments as advised by your technician for the best results.
• Report Any Unusual Reactions: If you experience any unusual side effects, such as blistering or excessive skin irritation, contact your laser treatment provider immediately.
• Be Patient with Results: Remember that it takes multiple sessions to achieve optimal results, and hair reduction happens gradually over the course of treatments.
