Microdermabrasion

Is your skin feeling dry, rough, damaged, or dull? Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliation procedure that gently exfoliates and smooths out your skin. Here at Vina Laser Med Spa, our microderm process utilizes diamond tips that are used as a vacuum when glided across the skin to remove dry, damaged cell layers. Microdermabrasion helps to thicken the collagen in your skin, giving your skin that youthful glow. After your microdermabrasion session, your skin’s pores will be open, making the deeper layers of the skin more accessible. This allows for creams and serums to penetrate deep into your skin, making them more effective.

Vina Laser Med Spa is located in Saginaw, Michigan and offers Microdermabrasion to residents in Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, Frankenmuth, Flint and the surrounding areas. Contact us today to schedule a microdermabrasion consultation!

How Can Microdermabrasion Benefit Me?

Microdermabrasion is the best exfoliation method there is! Microderm is effective for the following skin concerns: fine lines, enlarged or clogged pores, mild acne and complexion issues, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, uneven skin tones, oily skin, dry or patchy skin, acne scarring, and black and white heads for all skin types. Extended treatments will lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This procedure also works well with non-inflammatory acne by opening pores and speeding up skin cell turnover.

What to Expect

At the start of your microdermabrasion session, your aesthetician will assess the condition of your skin and provide you with a customized treatment plan to achieve the results you are looking for. During the session, your skin will be appropriately cleansed and prepped. The microdermabrasion process includes your aesthetician using a wand covered with small diamond chips that gently exfoliate the top layer of your skin, removing dead skin cells and revealing a smoother, brighter complexion.

Afterwards, your skin will be replenished and hydrated. Microdermabrasion increases the efficacy of your skincare products by opening up your pores and boosting absorption. For the best results, we recommend getting our transforming IPL Laser Photofacial after you have received a microdermabrasion treatment.

Pre Treatment Care

When preparing for your upcoming microdermabrasion appointment, it is important that you do not use any retinols, alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, or any other exfoliating products one week prior to your appointment. These products are chemical exfoliators, which could result in over exfoliation and increased sensitivity when combined with microdermabrasion. You also want to avoid sun exposure prior to your treatment because sunburnt skin cannot be treated. Lastly, avoid getting any aesthetic injectable services for 2 weeks prior to your appointment. You may arrive to your appointment with some light makeup on, but please refrain from using heavy or waterproof eye makeup / mascara that can be hard to remove.

Post Treatment Care

Initial dryness, flaking, or a feeling of mild sunburn are normal reactions after a microderm procedure and there is no need to be worried as they are  sign that your skin is repairing itself. Please remember that everyone’s skin can react differently to the microdermabrasion treatment. Regular moisture applications are VITAL to replenish hydration and prevent skin from becoming dry and peeling. Use non-active products to help nurture the skin (Feel free to ask your aesthetician for recommendations!). Do not directly expose the treated skin to the sun for at least 48 hours after your session and use SPF 30 or higher every day. We recommend using a SPF with zinc or titanium dioxide, so it does not irritate the skin. Avoid touching your face or neck with unwashed hands and avoid excessive exercise that causes sweating for 48 hours after your treatment. More post treatment care is as follows:

    • For 12 Hours After: No heavy makeup
    • For 24 Hours After: No swimming, facial waxing or tweezing
    • For 48 Hours After: No saunas, sun beds or sun exposure
    • For 72 Hours After: Don’t use any alpha hydroxy acid products (those containing lactic or glycolic acid), salicylic acid products, retinoids, or other topical acne medications such as benzoyl peroxide
    • For 7 Days After: No waxing, tweezing, scrubs or exfoliants, laser treatments of any kind, botox, fillers, or chemical peels of any kind

FAQ’s

Microdermabrasion can dry out or irritate your skin, especially if it is your first time receiving microderm treatment or if your skin was already inflamed. It also can cause tenderness, redness, swelling, flakiness, and sometimes discoloration. Your aesthetician will properly evaluate your skin to make sure you are an appropriate candidate beforehand. Contact us to schedule a microdermabrasion consultation and find out if this treatment is right for you!

Microdermabrasion will help to rejuvenate your skin and give you a youthful glow. It is beneficial for people who have whiteheads, blackheads, and small bumps on their face/neck. If you are someone who has larger inflammatory spots, we have better alternatives such as Blue Light Therapy or LED Light Treatments that are more suited for your skin’s needs.

Some patients do require a series of treatments to see results. To treat signs of aging, we might recommend coming in weekly, every two weeks, or monthly. Most patients receive between 5 and 16 microderm treatments.

The better you take care of your skin post treatment, the longer the results will last. Patients who protect their skin from the sun and follow our recommended post treatment care plan will maintain their results for a longer time than those who do not. Follow-up treatments are usually necessary to help retain smoother skin and a more radiant complexion.

Microdermabrasion only treats the top layer of your skin, so the skin recovers pretty quickly. Most people can safely have another microderm facial a week later. Some patients, however, need several weeks for their skin to recover.
