Eliminating the Appearance of Acne Scars
There is nothing more upsetting than finally getting your skin to clear up from an acne breakout, only to be left with the appearance of acne scars. These marks never seem to fade or disappear and make you feel the need to cover your face with layers of foundation to achieve the look of flawless skin. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to have clear, blemish free skin without any makeup on?
Below we talk about how you can achieve blemish free skin with treatments that have been proven to be effective in reducing and erasing these unwanted marks.
It’s important to note that you shouldn’t expect immediate results. Your skin will need time to heal and renew itself before you really start to see a difference.
The different types of acne scars
You may have noticed that you can get different types of acne scars on your face and body. The reason they don’t all look the same is because it depends on the way the inflammation from your acne healed at the end of its formation. This can complicate things because each type of scar may react differently to treatments, with some healing faster than others. Most people with acne scars have a combination of different types, making treatment more complicated.
Ice Pick Scars
These are types of acne scars that are small indents that look like they were punctured by an ice pick (hence the name). These types of acne scars occur when not enough collagen is produced during the healing process. Some ice pick scars are shallower while others can be deeper.
Boxed Scars
Boxed scars are similar to ice pick scars due to the depression below the surface of the skin. However, these scars are wider and have sharper edges. Similar to ice pick scars, these boxed scars are a result of too little collagen being produced during the healing process.
Rolling Scars
Rolling scars look exactly like they sound like, like hills or valleys “rolling” across your face. They are still considered to be depressed in the skin and are a result of too little collagen being created during the healing process. Rolling scars can be deep or shallow, but they mostly tend to be more shallow.
Hypertrophic Scars
In contrast to ice pick, boxed, and rolling scars, hypertrophic scars appear visibly red and are raised above the skin. These kinds of scars are due to the overproduction of collagen during the healing process.
Our Acne Scar Solutions
Now that you know about the main types of acne scars, it’s time to share with you our solutions to your acne scar problems! At Vina Laser Med Spa, we offer a variety of skin treatments, facials, and laser therapy treatments that will give you clear, glowing skin.
Microneedling
Microneedling has been proven to reduce and in some cases completely eliminate the appearance of acne scars, especially those that are depressed in the skin. This treatment stimulates the layer of the skin below the depression to produce more collagen, which will “fill in” the depressed area from the inside out. Since the collagen production is naturally coming from the body, you will be left with a very natural appearance.
Microneedling is also great for acne scar treatment because it opens up channels in your skin that give Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to speed up the healing process and give skin care products direct access to deeper layers of the skin.
IPL Photo Facial
The purpose of an IPL photo facial is the stimulate collagen production below the skins surface to promote healing, just like microneedling. The difference between the two is that IPL uses light energy to stimulate collagen, whereas microneedling is a more physical approach.
Through getting multiple IPL Photo Facials, you will drastically see the reduction of multiple types of acne scars, even active acne!
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a treatment that deeply exfoliates your skin with a diamond tipped wand, getting rid of dead skin cells and other debris that could be clogging up your pores, leaving your skin softer and brighter in complexion. This treatment is not as effective for treating deep or severe acne scars, but it does improve overall skin appearance and fades imperfections. This treatment is especially effective in treating brown spots or hyperpigmentation.
At Vina Laser Med Spa, we offer a variety of skin care treatments that will give your skin transformative results. Along with the three services listed above, we also offer blue light therapy, LED light treatments, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, scar vision, and more to treat your acne scars.
