Tips for Successful Laser Hair Removal
Ladies, we are sure you already know how much time and money goes into shaving, waxing, and plucking just to get smooth skin. If you are considering laser hair removal, or are currently being treated, it’s good to know what to do in order to achieve the best results. Keep reading for some tips on how to see the best results in your laser hair removal experience.
- Several Treatments are Required
You will start seeing significant results after a few laser treatments, but it does require several treatments to complete the hair removal process. The treatment program lasts for 18 months due to our body going through three hair growth phases: the anagen, catagen, and telogen hair cycles. Each interval duration is unique to the specific area being treated. Lasers effectively destroy the hair follicle only in the anagen phase when your hair is actually growing. In order to treat every hair and guarantee effectiveness, you will need multiple treatments done. Depending on the area, you will have treatments from four to eight weeks apart. The time between appointments gives the hair enough time to transition to the active growth phase for the lasers to target them efficiently.
- Treatments are Quick but Necessary
Depending on the area being treated, your appointments can range from 5 to 25 minutes. Make sure you are going to every appointment! We know things get hectic and it’s easy to forget about your appointment because you are already seeing significant hair reduction. But we cannot stress enough about the importance of showing up to all your treatments if you want to see the best hair removal results.
- Shave the Treated Area Before Each Treatment
Most probably already know this, but it’s always good to remind everyone: You need to shave the area you are getting laser treated 24 hours prior to your appointment! This allows the lasers to effectively target and destroy the hair follicle.
- Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure
Sunblock is your friend, not an enemy! By using the correct sunblock, you are reducing the risk of disrupting your treatment program. Soaking up the sun and laser hair removal treatments do not mix well. Be sure to use a mineral based sunscreen that contains zinc oxide because it gives you stronger coverage and protects your skin longer from damaging UV rays.
If you are sunburned or tanning within 14 days of your treatment, your technician will not be able to treat you due to safety reasons. The additional energy from the laser can put you at risk for an unpleasant reaction.
